These past few days in Vegas have been like a dream.

Hubby and I were worried about the trip before we arrived — heading to a fun vacation so soon after the U.S.’s worst shooting in history felt almost morbid.

But from the moment we landed, it became very apparent that #VegasStrong was more than just a marketing hashtag.

“When Things Get Dark, Las Vegas Shines.”

Boy does it ever.

Thank goodness we came… we really needed this trip together. Just the two of us.

Every trip we’ve taken since our honeymoon has been with friends or family. And while I certainly wouldn’t trade those memories for the world, we’d both been wanting to make some memories with just the two of us. Especially since we’ve spent more time apart this year than we ever have in the 7 years we’ve been together, what with my extended stints in Florida earlier this year, Hubby’s grueling work schedule in NYC since April, and my many press trips sans Hubs (to Finland, Yucatán, and Italy… with another Mexico trip planned for next month)

And this past February, when we finally returned again for a good friend’s wedding, we were reminded what a sentimental place it really was for us.

Yes, it’s tacky. It’s wild. And it’s full of a shocking number of children who stay out past midnight. But it’s also a really great place to be together with someone you love.

So this fall when we were trying to think about a little trip we could take for Hubby’s birthday (after my Amsterdam birthday bash it only seemed fair!), Hubby kept bringing up how much fun we had there back in February. And how many things we still wanted to do in Vegas (my Vegas “must-eat” list alone goes for miles!).

So we booked a fountain-view penthouse at the Bellagio.

And the rest is history.

I’ll be sad to leave today but forever grateful to have had this time with him, just the two of us, doing just exactly what we want, in a place that will always be special to us, despite the horrific and tragic events that have happened here this month.

Stay strong, beautiful Vegas. Stay strong.

P.s. these photos were actually shot while we were in Vegas in February and I can’t believe I forgot to post them here on the blog until now. But I promise to share plenty of photos from this trip too once I’ve had time to go through and edit them!
