“There is a time in the last few days of summer when the ripeness of autumn fills the air.“

With NYFW officially over, fall is just around the corner.
I don’t know about you but I’m craving crisp sweater weather, hot apple cider, and plenty of shoots out in the fall foliage!
But the transition to fall is never an easy one. We may want to wear chunky sweaters and boots but often the temperatures don’t drop for us in Chicago for at least another few weeks. Which means getting clever with your “wannabe” autumn wardrobe.
And today’s look is a perfect example of what I mean — a breezy top paired with sandals may not seem very fall-ish. But add in a moody floral skirt, a pumpkin-orange tote, and a killer pair of tortoise sunnies and you have my ideal look for this summer-to-fall transition!
3 Key Tips for the Summer-to-Fall Transition
1. Keep the layers light, even if the colors are dark
We may want it to be fall but we’ll still melt in our outfits like it’s summer. Steer clear from heavy knits (for now!) and opt for light layers that feel “fall-ish”. You’ll be comfortable AND autumnal.
2. Embrace Fall Palettes in Your Accessories
Pops of red, chocolate, orange, burgundy, and marigold are great ways to incorporate fall into your end-of-summer wardrobe! The easiest way? Add in these colors with your accessories! Who doesn’t love a pumpkin-hued tote?
3. Incorporate Moody Prints in Cool Ways
I’ve had this burgundy floral skirt for forever (seen here, here, and here) and wear it religiously in fall and winter. But it’s actually a light, stretchy fabric which makes it a great piece to transition with. Find a few moody pieces that you can stay cool in and build your look around those.
