“Love will assist you! Orpheus, Jove has taken pity on your grief. It is granted you to pass the sluggish waters of Lethe alive! Go on your way to the shadowy abyss: if with your singing you can placate the Furies, the monsters, and pitiless death, you can take back your beloved Eurydice with you into the light of day.”
— Amor to Orpheus, Orfeo ed Euridice

Last night was a magical one!
I was honored to be invited to the Lyric Opera’s Opening Night performance of Orphée et Eurydice. I absolutely loved walking the red carpet for The Marriage of Figaro back in 2015 but I remember feeling a little under-dressed in my cocktail attire.
So this year I pulled my black-tie dress out of storage and took the opportunity to take in all the glitz and glamour of opening night in my own red carpet-worthy dress.
Lyric’s production of Orphée et Eurydice is an interesting collaboration between the Joffrey Ballet and the Lyric Opera. Watch the trailer to see for yourself:
While I’m not typically a fan of ballets (sorry to those of you who love them!) I was so grateful for the opportunity to see such an interesting opera for opening night! Orphée et Eurydice runs through October 15th — buy your tickets on their site here.
As for the rest of the Lyric’s season, my family and I are contemplating seeing Cosi fan Tutti, Faust, and Turandot!(P.s. I ran into my friend Daina on the red carpet, an amazingly talented opera singer who I met through Instagram. Remember her from our Scottish Ballet promo video years ago? We’ve been good friends ever since! Follow her beautiful account here.)
