WHAT to wear to a baby shower?
Wow have I been asking myself this more and more lately as many of my closest friends have started to build and grow families of their own these past few years. Baby showers can be tricky to dress for! You don’t want to be under-dressed or over-dressed. You want to be supportive and sentimental as opposed to over-the-top. But at the same time you want to wear something that really celebrates the new arrival… tricky.
Luckily a few weeks ago I attended one of my closest friend’s baby shower and it got me to thinking about how I decide what to wear to a baby shower:
3 Tips for Deciding What to Wear to a Baby Shower
1. Color
I love that baby showers offer me the opportunity to wear white. I just love white dresses! Since you can’t wear them to weddings or bridal showers take advantage and wear your favorite white dress to your next baby shower. Other good options are blue or pink (if you know the baby’s gender) or yellow since it’s a mellow, gender-neutral hue.
2. Formal vs. Informal
No one wants to show up to a baby shower dressed in something fancier than the mom-to-be! Do your best to gauge what others going will wear and temper your outfit accordingly (I always have a tendency to over-dress for special occasions though so perhaps I should learn to take my own advice more).
3. The Type of Event
Is the baby shower a catered soirée or fancy event? Or is it just a casual party in a close friend’s living room? Use the setting and any themes for the event as another gauge for your outfit! It helps you feel comfortable at an event that can sometimes be awkward (especially if you’re meeting lots of new people for the first time).
I also always like to wear something special for good luck to a baby shower! Like this vintage brooch I inherited from my Nana that I stuck into my hairstyle.
So are you ready for some serious pinterest-worthy baby shower inspiration now???
Because I can’t wait to share the most beautiful baby shower I’ve ever attended with you!Next month one of my close friends Erica will be having a beautiful baby girl!
So naturally, we HAD to throw Erica a baby sprinkle (I like to think of baby sprinkles as friends-only baby showers).Erica’s close friend Brett arranged everything at gorgeous Cafe Spiaggia off Michigan Avenue.
It was an absolutely stunning event filled some of the most gorgeous people I know (gorgeous outside but — more importantly — inside).
Isn’t Erica a stunning mom-to-be? And can you believe Brett arranged for her to have her own REAL Snapchat filter floral crown to wear for the sprinkle? I think we all DIED when she first put it on!We all can’t wait to meet your little princess, Erica!
The tablescapes were beautifully decorated with lush pink peonies and adorable bronze zoo animal figurines — childishly chic in the best way possible!
On a side note, isn’t Brett’s Chloé Drew obsession-worthy? Hers is the size slightly larger than my mini and in PINK! Her Hubby has good taste, doesn’t he?
It paired so well with the lush, pink theme for the baby sprinkle! And, being a baby sprinkle for foodies, you HAD to know the food would be just as spectacular as the decor! Everything from the cheese and charcuterie boards…
to the artisan breads and olive oils…
to the burrata with gooseberries(that we all wolfed down in record time)…
to the exquisitely presented vegetables and pillowy piles of fresh, saucy pasta…
lobster salads…
and even several off-menu dishes created just for Erica’s baby sprinkle! But the best part of any shower is always present-time!
Every baby needs custom Nike sneakers, amiright? And their very own Sriracha sippy cup! Kudos to Sam of Chicago Food Authority for finding the BEST foodie baby gift ever.
Isn’t this the cutest? Is it sad that I want one for my grown-up self too?
Then came time for our big group gift to Erica (thanks to Shai for planning such a spectacular gift from all of us!).
What mother-to-be can resist a luxurious orange Hermes box? Especially one with a pretty pink monogrammed baby towel inside! After we oohhed and aahhed over the gifts, we dove straight into dessert! Quite literally!
Isn’t this cake from Bon Vivant Cakes absolutely AMAZING?
The inside was filled with Kat-Kat buttercream — a sweet homage to Erica’s Kit-Kat pregnancy cravings!
It was easily the most Instagrammable baby shower I’ve ever attended! We all left stuffed, inspired, and with plenty of fresh peonies to decorate our homes with!
