“Remember this: classics never make a comeback. They wait for the perfect moment to take the spotlight from overdone, tired trends.”

I’d say 90% of my closet is filled with wardrobe classics. Conservative ball park.
If you’ve followed this blog for, say, oh more than a week or so than you’ve probably caught on to that. The truth is I’m way more likely to buy one piece I’ll wear for 10+ years than a bunch of inexpensive, trendy options I’ll ditch the next year.
Quality Over Quantity or Pauca Sed Bona, as the Romans would say!
While I was paying off my student loans after college, I didn’t have much of a budget for clothing. And I found that if I bought just a few classic pieces, my wardrobe expanded ten-fold more than if I’d bought dozens of cheaper, trendier items. And they lasted longer.
The classics are classics for a reason. They give you endless opportunities to remix and wear them, year after year after year.
This Smythe blazer is a great example of a classic I’ll depend on for years. It’s one of the first pieces I ever showcased on the blog and for good reason — it’s a beautifully tailored, time-honored silhouette with a surprisingly modern cut-out in the back peplum design. It’s timeless but in a way that’s not at all boring.
What are some of your wardrobe classics? What pieces do you expect to be wearing in 10+ years?
P.s. Many thanks to talented George the Salon stylist Michelle Frost for this stunning blowout! Their services are absolutely spectacular — so luxurious without any pretension. Be sure to check out the salon and visit Michelle, she’s ridiculously talented!
